What is “Seems as if” instruction? It seems as if the sun comes up every morning, but we know this isn’t the case. Lets take a look at three pieces of instruction nearly every player has heard and many think a tour player is doing in their swing.
1. Keep the Left Arm Straight: It “Seems as If” you should keep the left arm straight but should you try to keep it straight or is there an easier way. There is an easier way and a little known tour secret to keep it straight and gain a tremendous amount of power.
2. Start the Down Swing with the Left Hip: It “Seems as If” the left hip is starting the down swing when you watch a tour player hit a golf ball, but there is a little known tour secret that actually starts the swing and gives the player an effortless and more powerful swing.
3. Hold the Lag: It “Seems As If” you should retain the lag or angle in the downswing as long as possible. Almost any slow motion video will seem to show that as fact. However, to achieve the most powerful golf swing the secret to retaining the lag will surprise you.
These are just three examples of many that are keeping you from playing your best golf. Golf instruction for to long has been based on opinions of what good players feel not the facts of what do. Since “feel” is not always reality, few players every achieve success in the game. Ben Hogan was arguably the best ball striker in the game. In his book wrote to start the downswing by turning the left hip, but has many close to Mr. Hogan (or has watched his swing in slow motion) know, that is not actually what initiated the downswing.
